Race Office hours and phones

The Race Office works weekday hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday. When Charlottetown races, its doors open 3 hours ahead of post time; Summerside allows 2 hours. Two phone lines reach it: 902-629-6634 and 902-629-6636. Holiday hours are not published, and a call to 902-620-4222 confirms them.

Standardbred Canada, the national registry for the breed, has a representative at the track on race days only. That person is not on site during the weekday office hours.

Seats, tower and screen

The oval at Red Shores is the Charlottetown Driving Park, which dates from 1888. Over 200 seats make up the grandstand, arranged in theatre-style rows that look onto the oval. The stand is climate-controlled. One renovation put a 40-foot video wall at the track; the same work brought a boutique casino and another restaurant to the gaming floor.

Out in the centrefield stands the Judges Tower. It can be booked for a private party by a group of 20 to 100 people.

Dinner on a race night

Top of the Park is a dining room on three tiers above the historic track. It serves a buffet on race nights and a brunch on Sundays; its hours are not posted. The Trackside Patio is outdoors, right beside the racing, and no hours are posted for it either. Diners can bet on the horses without leaving their restaurant table.

O'Brien's Social Bar & Kitchen, one floor below the main level at Red Shores, honours Joe O'Brien, a Hall of Fame horseman from PEI. Its kitchen serves 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Sunday to Wednesday stretch, then 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. across the Thursday to Saturday nights. The hours Red Shores posts leave holidays out, so the Form Desk recommends a call to the main line, 902-620-4222, before a holiday dinner. A table at O'Brien's can be booked only by phone at 902-620-4264, as Red Shores accepts no reservation requests online.

Red Shores runs a second track at 55 Greenwood Drive in Summerside, where the raceway marked "Est. 1886" sits next to Credit Union Place. Check the program before setting out to confirm racing is scheduled for the chosen track and day.
